The Private Retreats

At The Inner Shift Institute, we offer personalised packages tailored to meet your individual needs and preferences. You have the flexibility to choose from a range of options, including 1 to 6-day retreats. Whether you prefer a solo experience, wish to attend with your partner, or gather a small group of friends, we accommodate your preferences. Each package is designed to provide a unique and transformative journey.

Upon contacting us, you’ll receive detailed information about our various packages, allowing you to select the one that best suits your goals and schedule. Our team is committed to ensuring that your experience with us aligns perfectly with your intentions and desires.

Private ceremonies are conducted during daylight hours and typically span 6-7 hours. We advise participants to refrain from scheduling any activities afterwards, allowing for full introspection until bedtime, or to have a supportive companion present. Upon arrival, we engage in a discussion to address any lingering concerns before starting.

Following consumption, effects typically manifest within 30 to 60 minutes, occasionally extending to 2 hours. The effects last 4 to 6 hours, during which one of our facilitators remains present to provide guidance and ensure your safety.

Our ceremonies start with meditation, helping participants focus on their intentions. We guide clients through the journey using a mixture of a non-directive and directive approach. This means the session is client-led, and we only intervene if the client specifically asks us to or if something intense or difficult comes up. In such cases, we take a more directive role, using the Inner Shift Method to support you through challenging moments.

After the experience, we offer compassionate support and facilitate the sharing of insights. Post-experience sessions, either in-person or online, are available in the days or weeks following to help process and integrate the experience.

We work in Maastricht and Amsterdam in The Netherlands, in Innsbruck/Salzburg, Austria, Lagos, Portugal and Tulum, Mexico. We offer private, partner and group ceremonies.

You will book your own accommodation. We recommend choosing a comfortable, cosy and private space on Airbnb, and we’re happy to suggest suitable options if needed. We did provide a room in the past, but we have found that it is more beneficial for our clients to be in their own space as they will not have to travel when the session is complete.

You will still feel quite sensitive after the 5-7 hour session, and a walk through the city often feels overwhelming. Plus, this is an incredibly valuable time for reflection and stillness, so we come to your temporary home.

If you live in the Netherlands, you can do this private session in the comfort of your own home.

Session and Post Experience Recommendations

When considering how many ceremonies to book, it’s essential to align your expectations with your personal intention and comfort level. While one session can yield transformative results for some individuals, others may benefit from multiple sessions to delve deeper into their emotional processing journey.

1. Initial Session Insights

For many participants, the first session serves as an introduction to the expanded state experience. It’s common for individuals to approach this initial session with a sense of caution or guardedness as they familiarise themselves with the substance and its effects. This cautious approach allows participants to gradually open up and gain insight.

2. Deepening the Journey

Following the initial session, participants often find themselves better prepared to engage in deeper introspection during subsequent ceremonies. With a newfound understanding of their experience, individuals can more readily explore the depths of their consciousness and address underlying issues.

3. Personalised Approach

Ultimately, the number of ceremonies needed varies from person to person. While some may find deep emotional processing with just one session, others may require multiple ceremonies to achieve their desired outcomes. It’s essential to assess your readiness to open up to the experience and consult with our team to determine the most suitable approach for your journey.

4. Our Recommendation

Based on our experience, we’ve found that most individuals seeking profound transformation benefit from booking two ceremonies and two post-experience sessions. This approach allows for a comprehensive exploration of your inner landscape.

We also offer shared ceremonies with either one practitioner in the same space, or each person can have a practitioner in separate rooms, which will allow you both to share the experience together while also having an individual experience with your own facilitator.

If all of you feel that you will each feel very safe and comfortable with potentially difficult emotions coming up and know that you will not fear going into emotions in fear of upsetting or angering the others, then you can go for having the experience with the same practitioner in the same room.

The experience can be very vulnerable and if our relationship isn’t in a place yet where we can hold that vulnerability for each other, which is, of course, totally OK, then we would recommend having a practitioner each. You could either do it at the same time in the same place where you can be in separate rooms, or you can do it one after the other on separate days.

If you book two or three practitioners, the price will be the same as two or three private ceremonies. They also need to be booked separately. This is only possible in Amsterdam and Maastricht when two/three practitioners have the same dates open in their calendars.

Costs start at 2150 Euros for a 1 Day Session.

The Inner Shift Method is a gentle, structured approach that supports deep personal growth through legal, nature-based sessions.

At the center of everything we do is emotional safety. This means you are met without judgment, pressure, or expectation. All of your feelings, thoughts, and experiences are welcome exactly as they are. You don’t have to be any different than how you arrive. In this safety, your system can soften. It becomes easier to open up, face emotions that may have been held for years, and move through what arises with care and support.

1. A Safe and Caring Space

We begin by creating a space where you feel physically safe and emotionally held. Emotional safety means you are not judged, rushed, or told what you should feel. Instead, you are met with acceptance, so you can fully allow whatever arises to be there.

2. Gentle Guidance

When helpful, we offer questions or reflections that stay close to your own intentions. This gentle guidance helps you stay connected to your process without feeling pushed or overwhelmed.

3. Working with Core Beliefs

Sometimes old beliefs surface—stories about not being enough, being unlovable, or feeling unworthy. We help you meet these beliefs with care, and when possible, allow space for them to shift into a more kind and supportive view of yourself.

4. Being Deeply Seen

Throughout your journey, our role is to stay fully present with you. This presence helps you feel seen and supported, even in difficult moments. Many participants share that simply being deeply seen and not left alone in their experience is one of the most powerful parts.

5. Navigating Emotional Waves

Strong emotions may come up. Sometimes these are linked to old memories, early experiences, or unresolved pain. We stay by your side as you move through these waves, helping you feel steady and cared for.

6. Inner Child Support

When old parts of you emerge—parts that carry pain, fear, or unmet needs—we meet them gently. We offer the support and kindness that may have been missing when those wounds first formed.

7. Meeting Unmet Needs

Some experiences bring forward old longings for care, love, or protection that were not fully met in earlier life. In those moments, we provide steady, respectful support to help bring relief and softness to those places.

8. Supporting Openness

At times, fear, control, or mental overthinking can make it hard to relax into the process. We use simple, grounding tools to help you stay present and allow the experience to unfold naturally.

9. Staying Grounded

We work with the body through calming and grounding practices that help you feel stable throughout your journey. This allows you to stay connected to yourself, even during emotional moments.

10. Trusting Your Process

Your journey follows its own rhythm. Our role is not to lead or control, but to support what naturally unfolds. We intervene only when helpful, always respecting your own inner process.

11. Gentle Integration

After your session, we guide you in reflecting on your experience and help you apply what you’ve discovered to your daily life. This integration allows the insights to slowly become part of how you live, long after the session has ended.

The Shift Retreat will take place in The Netherlands. Only a 2 hour train ride away from Amsterdam or a 1 hour ride from Duesseldorf, we find our retreat venue. We have chosen a place of tranquility surrounded by peaceful nature – a location that will guide us to a place of tranquility within ourselves.

Karlijn is a facilitator for expanded states of consciousness and a skilled guide based in the Netherlands. Her mission is to support individuals in reconnecting with the wisdom of their hearts, where clarity and answers often emerge.

After obtaining her Master’s Degree in 2011, Karlijn worked as an HR Consultant in the corporate world but felt disconnected from herself and her environment. Her personal experiences with plant work opened her awareness and led her into deeper inner exploration, learning from Indigenous teachers in South America as well as Western approaches.

Following a strong inner calling, Karlijn completed an intensive one-year training in transformation and shamanic practices. Since 2018, she has dedicated herself to guiding individuals through expanded experiences in carefully held, supportive settings, witnessing meaningful shifts in those she accompanies.

Karlijn’s biggest life lesson is transitioning from a state of survival to one of self-love, trust, and surrender to the unknown.

Outside of her work, Karlijn enjoys long hikes in nature and ecstatic dance. She resides in a forest, cherishing community life, fireside conversations, and heart-based living in connection with herself, others, and nature.

Caro is a mindset coach, energy practitioner, and facilitator of expanded states of consciousness, dedicated to supporting individuals in reconnecting with their inner essence, releasing limiting patterns, and creating a life aligned with purpose and meaning.

With a deep passion for personal growth and psychology, Caro explores both inner and outer dynamics to understand what may hold people back from following their dreams. She believes in the power of self-reflection and releasing emotional burdens to create greater peace, balance, and self-compassion.

Caro enjoys guiding individuals through the process of recognizing self-sabotaging patterns and connecting with their inner wisdom. Through shifts in perception, clients can rediscover their own answers and consciously shape a life that feels meaningful and authentic.

Having personally moved through challenges such as guilt, people-pleasing, and self-doubt, Caro brings deep empathy and understanding to her work. Rachel is a psychologist, facilitator of expanded states of consciousness, and Holotropic Breathwork practitioner, dedicated to guiding individuals toward their own inner answers. Through a gentle, non-directive approach, Rachel holds a safe and open space where emotions and body sensations can be explored with trust and curiosity.

Her passion for non-ordinary states of consciousness was sparked during her psychology studies when she encountered Holotropic Breathwork. She later completed a second Master’s degree in Transpersonal Psychology and the Grof Transpersonal Training in 2016.
